Hi. This site has been put together in July 2008 as a result of me and two friends planning to do the 3 peaks challenge. During the year leading up to the challenge I had been gathering information which would give us a good chance of completing the three mountains in the 24 hour period. I therefore decided to put all this information on a website so anyone could benefit from my research and experience.

The PayPal button at the bottom of the page is not for a charity, it is for you to donate to this website and to me if you find any of the information on here useful. This website does cost money to keep running each year such as the hosting fees and renewal fees for the domain. If you feel you want to donate to help me keep it running, please feel free to do so.

The Challenge

The National Three Peaks Challenge is a mountain endurance challenge in which people attempt to climb the highest peaks in Scotland, England, and Wales within 24 hours, including travel between the mountains. The typical route is to start up Ben Nevis, and then head down to Scafell Pike followed by Snowdon at the end.

My friends and I did the challenge over the weekend of Saturday 9 August to Sunday 10 August 2008, starting at Ben Nevis at around 4pm on the Saturday.

The mountains climbed, in order of elevation, are Ben Nevis in Western Scotland (1,344 m or 4,409 ft), Snowdon in North Wales (1,085 m or 3560 ft), and Scafell Pike in the Lake District (978 m or 3209 ft). In all the challenge involves some 42 km (26 miles) of ascent and descent, with total travel approaching around 600 miles, not including getting to Fort William to start with and getting home afterwards. Our attempt was organised solely by ourselves (mainly me). Team The team consisted of Alexis Karfopoulos , Will Goundry, and Marc Lewis. Alexis and Marc both work at Wilson Gunn patent/trade mark attorneys in Manchester . Will works as a research chemist at Astra Zeneca in Macclesfield.

The walkers were gratefully supported by Lisa Whitby and Andy Lowe who will drive the walkers between the mountains whilst they grab some much needed Charity Our chosen charity was The Alzheimer's Society which is an organisation working to improve the quality of life of people affected by dementia in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. They have over 250 locations across the UK to provide help and information to people affected by dementia in their communities. They also provide day care and home care for people with dementia, as well as support and befriending services to help partners and families cope with the demands of caring.
